I am a research scientist at the Wikimedia Foundation. See my Meta Page for links to current projects. My research interests bounce around but primarily revolve around how societal inequalities are preserved in online platforms like Wikipedia or Yelp. I seek to better understand how different design decisions in the algorithms underlying these platforms might change who can benefit from them. I often approach this through geography. I completed my PhD work with Brent Hecht while at GroupLens Research at the University of Minnesota and People, Space, & Algorithms (PSA) Research Group at Northwestern University.
